# Language Settings

> How TalentUnveiled handles languages across the candidate experience

TalentUnveiled supports **English** and **German** across the entire candidate experience — from the portal interface to AI interviews, notifications, and calendar invites. Two independent language settings control which language appears where.

## Supported Languages

| Language | Code |
| -------- | ---- |
| English  | en   |
| German   | de   |

## Job Posting Language

The **job posting language** is set when you create a job posting — it's the "Language" field in Step 1 of the job creation wizard.

This setting controls the language of:

* The **AI interview** — the interviewer speaks and responds in this language
* **Interview questions** — generated in the posting language
* **CV evaluation** — analysis is performed in the posting language

Once set, this language applies to all interviews conducted for that posting.

<Info>Changing the job posting language affects future interviews only. Past interviews and their scores are not affected.</Info>

## Portal Language

The **portal language** controls the interface that candidates and HR users see, as well as all notifications sent to them.

* **Candidates** switch languages using the floating language button in the bottom-left corner of the screen
* **HR users** switch languages from the language picker in the sidebar profile dropdown

This setting controls:

* The portal and booking page interface
* Email and SMS notifications
* Calendar invites
* Phone verification messages

The portal language is independent from the job posting language — a candidate can browse the portal in German while their interview is conducted in English, or vice versa.

## How Language Applies to Each Touchpoint

| What the candidate sees | Which setting applies |
| ------------------------------------- | ------------------------ |
| Portal and booking pages | Portal language |
| Phone verification code | Portal language |
| Outreach calls                        | Resolved automatically\* |
| Booking confirmations (email and SMS) | Resolved automatically\* |
| Calendar invites                      | Resolved automatically\* |
| Interview reminders (email and SMS) | Resolved automatically\* |
| AI interview | Job posting language |
| Interview questions | Job posting language |
| CV evaluation | Job posting language |

<Note>
  For notifications marked with \*, TalentUnveiled uses the candidate's portal language when available. If the candidate was imported and hasn't set a language preference, it falls back to the job posting language. If neither is set, notifications are sent in English.
</Note>

## Changing Languages

* **Job posting language** — change it from the job posting settings. Only affects future interviews, not past ones.
* **Portal language** — candidates and HR users can change their language at any time using the language picker. Notification language updates immediately.

<Info>All notifications — emails, SMS messages, and calendar invites — are available in both supported languages.</Info>

<Note>
  The AI interview language and notification language can differ. For example, a German-speaking candidate browsing in German will receive notifications in German, but if the job posting is set to English, the AI interview will be conducted in English.
